Sometimes I feel like the universe points me in the direction of new artists because it understands just how much I appreciate the complexity of music- and maybe because I ask for it. Nothing's quite as gratifying as uncovering an artist who speaks to the depths of your being and wanting to spread the word as far and wide as you can. If that resonates with you, then you know the tremendous pleasure I experienced when I first heard the nostalgic and emotive vibes of Indiana's KAOWASHERE.

A little over a month ago, KAOWASHERE released a collection of songs that's been safely tucked away in her pocket of unreleased music for some time. The eight track project titled "Pieces of Mine" serves as an introduction to the artist- showcasing her impressive and varied musical abilities but also unmasks parts of her personal life that only she could explain. With each song title being numbered, there's really no way of forming an assumption about the refreshing body of work unless you listen- something i've grown to really appreciate.

I got themes of love, heartbreak, and pain in this project, which are all things that are relatable but still make your story very special and gives listeners a chance to get to know you better. For a better understanding of the timeline, was this project an accumulation of different experiences or was it one moment that led to a breaking point ?

Yes, to both assumptions. Each lyric, every note connects to multiple points of my life at once. Everything is meticulously placed, but I had been working on all of my released songs over the span of 4 years. To be real this project is just that, pieces of mine, a piece of the story I want to tell. Sometimes I can feel and hear all of the ups and downs of my journey so naturally and my music conveys that. But the breaking point was honestly when I felt finished inside.

The production behind your songs are so mesmerizing and moving. How do you come about creating them?

In all honesty I have no clue how to make beats, barely know how to record myself. All of the production of my music comes from good ole YouTube.

What made you want to start making music?

Honestly i've always created music; I use to walk around my house making up full blown plays and singing every part in every tone of voice. I grew up just creating it, it came easy- kinda like learning to walk. I recently just started recording it because of people's responses to my talent; plus there's not really anything else i'd rather do in this life but create music.

How do you want listeners to view your music?

Honestly, I don't care how you view it. Once my music is released, its released into my listeners hands and it's up to them to paint the picture, which inevitably everyone will. I just want y'all to know I speak nothing but the truth. And in all honesty I see my music as a blank canvas in a weird way- my listeners just paint what they hear.
